This Sunday is the “Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe.” The entire title matters. We can celebrate and honor the “most precious blood of Jesus,” his “sacred heart,” his “divine mercy,” and the “exaltation of the Holy Cross.” But notice all those have to do with the past – Jesus the poor, the suffering.
At the end of time, though, that is not the final picture we get of Jesus in the Bible. The final and definitive view we have of Christ is as a king – the King of kings, the King of the Universe.
